There is this perception that Tommy Wright was very good at signing players making shrewd deals to bolster his squad. Whilst he might have hit on more players than most, he certainly had his misses but when he missed, he missed badly. From strikers that can't score to keepers that can't keep a hold of the ball, these are the worst of the worst that have joined the McDiarmid park squad.

5. Adam Morgan

The Englishman arrived on a loan deal from Yeovil after being a part of Liverpool's youth set-up. he gained first team experience during loans spells with Yeovil and Rotherham, before joining the glovers permanently in January of 2014. He fell out of favour with manager Gary Johnson, resulting in his loan to Saints. He featured in 5 games during his spell in Perth, making only 1 start in a 1-0 away loss to Hamilton. He offered absolutely nothing and looked completely out of his depth. After receiving a red card in a development game against Hearts he would never feature again. His loan spell was cut short just before Christmas ending a tumultuous time north of the border.

4. Michael Coulson

Another English winger makes this list, Coulson however joined on a permanent deal from York after signing a two year deal. However, he wouldn't make it to the end of the contract. He showed promise during the preseason scoring on his first start against Livingston but that would prove to be the high point of his tenure. When the games counted he would play 18 times and failed to find the net again. Although injuries disrupted his time in Perth spending two months on the sideline due to calf injury. Even when he came back he failed to make an impact. It might seem harsh to rank him this high but the expectation was higher for him than Morgan, as Coulson had proved his talent before arriving and was given more chances to prove himself.

3. Sean Goss

When the German arrived from QPR in January 2019 he had already proved himself in Scottish Football. He had a spell on loan at Rangers the season prior scoring twice in 15 games in all competitions, one of them coming against Saints. However, it seemed like he had left all his skill at Ibrox, because in the seven games he played in Saints blue Goss couldn't pass, couldn't defend or couldn't shoot. His contributions would be a couple of stunning long passes flashing the potential that he held but he never showed it enough.

2. Madis Vihmann

The big Estonian centre half arrived on loan from Estonian side Flora Tallinn last summer. The deal gave St. Johnstone the option to secure Vihmann on a permanent deal, it was seen as a coup for the club as he had 19 caps for Estonia, although he couldn't adapt to Scottish football. He looked like Bambi on ice at times and appeared like he never learned how to defend. It was heart in mouth stuff watching him play, always wondering when a mistake was going to happen. The loan deal was terminated at the end of January after making only 5 appearances. Only days after he arrived back in Estonia he retired from football due to personal reasons.

1. Joe Gormley

Gormely arrived from Perth on a loan deal from English side Peterborough in August 2016. The man nicknamed Joe the Goal back in his native Nothern Ireland had high expectations when he arrived. These would never be met. His first and only start came against Aberdeen in the League Cup quarter-final. During the first half, David Wotherspoon swung a delightful ball into the box for him, however 'Joe the Goal' was clearly tired of scoring as he decided to not make contact with the ball, passing up a tap-in. Saints would go onto lose the game in the 90th minute. He made one more appearance for Saints, coming off the bench in a 1-1 draw with Hamilton a couple days later, before he terminated his loan and subsequently his Peterborough contract wanting to go back home and play part-time football in Northern Ireland. I will always blame he fact that we never got to the semi-final on him so for that reason alone he takes the number one spot.
